Life can get pretty hectic, right? Our minds are often a jumble of tasks, plans, and worries. It's like having a mental to-do list repeatedly swirling around your head, even when we're trying to relax. Unfortunately, many women report that this can lead to feelings of anxiety, overwhelm, or not knowing where to start!
But here's a little trick that we at Seed Cycle find super helpful: it's called ‘brain dumping’. No, it's not as messy as it sounds - quite the opposite! It’s a calming exercise that helps clear and declutter your mind.
So, what exactly is brain dumping? It's the simple process of taking everything that's in your mind and putting it down on paper. By doing this, you free up space in your mind, allowing you to think more clearly and feel less weighed down by all those thoughts.
The best part? There's no right or wrong way to do it! You get to decide how you want to approach it. All you need is a pen, paper, and a few minutes each day.
The theory behind brain dumping: By jotting down your thoughts, feelings, worries and to-dos your brain can focus on the present, rather than being stuck in the past or worrying about the future. Most of what you write might seem like random thoughts, but trust me, it's all better out than in!
Wondering when to give this a try? Mornings or evenings are great for brain dumping. In the morning, your mind is fresh from sleep, making it easier to identify what needs your attention and how you're feeling. It sets a positive tone for your day, giving you a clear mind and purpose.
On the other hand, some people find doing this exercise at night helps them to sleep better. It's a time when any issues or worries get a chance to spill onto the page, allowing for a sense of relief and better rest. Plus, it sets you up for the next day, having organised your thoughts the night before.
And guess what? You don't need loads of time for brain dumping. Just 5 to 10 minutes can work wonders. You can even pair it with tracking your monthly cycle symptoms, writing positive affirmations or what you are grateful for, making it an even more fulfilling experience.
